It turns out, some of the best things in life are free! Khan Academy is a revolutionary web portal full of great lessons and content related to Math, Science, Economics, Arts and Humanities and Programming.
In 2004, Salman Khan began tutoring his cousin in math. When other family members and friends requested similar help, he decided to distribute the tutorials online. He formally started Khan Academy in 2006. The tutorials became so popular that Khan decided to quit his job in 2009 to focus on building tutorials full-time. Khan received support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as Google and the Carlos Slim Foundation. In 2010, they began offering a gamification component so users could earn “badges” for successfully completing lessons. Lessons have been translated to 23 languages and videos to 65 languages.
Even though a lot of the subject matter can get pretty complex, Khan Academy has a great way of presenting it in a straight-forward, easy-to-follow manner. The lessons are not only great for kids but for adults who may want to brush up on a subject they learned years ago or maybe something they never learned before. Parents also say it’s a great way to brush up on subjects so they can help their kids with their homework.
Khan Academy content is an awesome platform that has a mission to offer “A free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere.”
